4-Day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Sahara via Dades & Todra
Ouarzazate → Skoura → Dades → Todra → Merzouga → Rissani → Alnif → Nkob → Drâa Valley → Ouarzazate
Journey from palm-filled oases and dramatic mountain gorges to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi on a private four-day adventure through southern Morocco.
From Ouarzazate to the Sahara
Experience one of southern Morocco’s great private journeys on this 4-day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Sahara tour, traveling through Skoura Oasis, the Valley of Roses, the spectacular Dades Gorges and Todra Gorge before reaching the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
The journey is designed for travelers who want more than a fast desert transfer. Spend time exploring mountain valleys, kasbah landscapes, palm oases and traditional communities before enjoying a complete Sahara experience around Merzouga.
After your desert stay, return to Ouarzazate through a different southern route via Rissani, Alnif, Nkob and the Drâa Valley, creating a complete private circuit rather than retracing the same road.
Day by Day Itinerary
Four carefully designed days combining valleys, gorges, desert landscapes, local culture and a complete Sahara experience.
Ouarzazate → Skoura Oasis → Valley of Roses → Dades Valley
Your private journey begins in Ouarzazate, where your driver meets you at your hotel, riad or Ouarzazate Airport.
Travel east toward Skoura Oasis, one of southern Morocco’s most beautiful palm-filled landscapes. Take time to explore the palmeraie, traditional earthen architecture and historic kasbahs hidden among gardens and palm trees.
Continue toward Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses, passing cultivated fields, small villages and mountain scenery. During the spring rose season the valley becomes especially colorful, while its landscapes and villages remain beautiful throughout the year.
From here, continue into the Dades Valley, where the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Stop at panoramic viewpoints, unusual rock formations and traditional villages before reaching your accommodation.
Dades Gorges → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Merzouga Sahara
After breakfast, travel deeper into the Dades Gorges, stopping at the famous winding-road viewpoint and other panoramic locations surrounded by dramatic canyon scenery.
Continue toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise above the narrow valley. Take time for a walk through the gorge and enjoy the contrast between rocky canyon walls and nearby palm-filled landscapes.
After lunch, continue south through changing desert scenery toward Erfoud, known for its fossil-rich landscapes and as one of the gateways to the Sahara.
By late afternoon, arrive near Merzouga, where the immense dunes of Erg Chebbi rise from the desert.
Meet your camel caravan and ride across the dunes as the light changes toward sunset. Arrive at your desert camp, where you can enjoy the quiet of the Sahara before dinner beneath the stars.
Merzouga Desert Experience → Khamlia → Nomad Country → Merzouga
Wake early if you wish to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes before breakfast at camp.
Today is dedicated to experiencing the Sahara rather than immediately leaving the desert.
Travel by private 4×4 around the Merzouga region, exploring the landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi. Visit desert villages and continue toward areas traditionally used by nomadic families.
When possible and respectfully arranged, spend time with a local nomad family and learn more about life in this remote environment.
Continue to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa musical traditions. Enjoy a local music experience and learn about the cultural heritage of the community.
There will also be time to explore desert landscapes, dry lake areas when accessible, fossil terrain and panoramic dune viewpoints.
Return toward Merzouga in the afternoon and enjoy time to relax or explore the dunes again before sunset.
Merzouga → Rissani → Alnif → Nkob → Drâa Valley → Ouarzazate
After breakfast, leave Merzouga and begin a completely different return route toward Ouarzazate.
Travel first toward Rissani, an important historic trading town near the Sahara. Depending on the day and timing, there may be an opportunity to visit the traditional market and experience the atmosphere of one of the region’s most important local centers.
Continue through the desert landscapes toward Alnif, passing rugged mountain scenery and wide open plateaus.
The journey then continues to Nkob, known for its traditional kasbah architecture and its position between the desert and the Jbel Saghro region.
After time for lunch, continue toward the Drâa Valley, one of Morocco’s great oasis landscapes. Palm groves, traditional villages and earthen kasbahs accompany the road as you travel north toward Ouarzazate.
Arrive back in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon or evening, where your private Sahara journey ends at your hotel, riad or airport.
