Take a moment to marvel at the grandeur of the Hassan II mosque, one of the largest in the Islamic world. This stop is not only for its spectacular architecture. It’s also a unique opportunity to explore its interior, a rare experience in Morocco. Gain an insight into the fusion of monumentality and spirituality in this magnificent temple.
Rabat’s historic wonders and charming riad accommodation

Embark on a picturesque journey to Rabat, just 90km away. Rabat is not as sprawling as Casablanca. However, together with its neighbour Salé, across the Bu Regreg river, it forms a vast urban area. The capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the famous imperial cities, boasts a fascinating historic centre.
Enjoy a free afternoon to plan your Rabat adventure. Don’t miss the iconic Hassan Tower, dating from the late 12th century Almohad period, and the Oudayas Kasbah, dating from the same century and extensively rebuilt over time. Finish your day with an enchanting night in a charming riad and immerse yourself in Rabat’s rich cultural tapestry.

Day 2: Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez

The second day of this 7-Days Imperial Cities and Desert Tour  begins with breakfast at a riad in Rabat. You will then set off to visit the main sites of the day. The first of these is Meknes, another imperial city and UNESCO World Heritage site. Many of the historical monuments in Meknes evoke Moulay Ismail, the sultan who made it the capital at the end of the 17th century. His mausoleum and the spectacular ramparts are examples of this.

After a free stroll through Meknes, we continue to Volubilis, a Roman archaeological site. Columns, mosaics, arches and other remains will remind us of the importance of this city at the time of the Roman Empire. It experienced moments of splendour during the reigns of Marcus Aurelius and Caracalla, among others. This is why it has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

In the afternoon we move on to Fez, another imperial city and the third World Heritage Site of the day. Its splendour makes it one of the most important places on this 7-day tour of Morocco. We will visit it in detail the following day. For the time being, you will have time to stroll around the centre. Soak up the atmosphere and the popular culture. In the evening, you will rest in a charming riad in the medina.

Day 3: Fez – Visit

Discover the vibrant city of Fez with our official local guide, exploring iconic sites such as the ancient Karaouine Mosque and University. Immerse yourself in the spiritual and intellectual richness of Fez as you visit prestigious madrasas like Bou Inania and Attarine. Wander through artisanal neighborhoods, including the traditional leather-working tanners in the medina.

The personalized walking tour covers key monuments, but you’ll have the afternoon to delve further into Fez’s treasures. Explore the Jewish quarter, Mellah, and the Royal Palace with its stunning Golden Gates. Don’t miss the Borj Nord Museum, El Glaoui Palace, or the historic Bab Boujloud gates. Use your free time for shopping, indulging in the city’s renowned crafts, making for perfect souvenirs. Conclude your day with another enchanting night at the riad in the medina.

Day 4: Fez – Ifrane – Monkey Forest – Erfoud – Desert of Merzouga

Departing from Fez, venture into the untamed beauty of Moroccan nature. Traverse the Middle Atlas, encountering the picturesque ‘Switzerland of Africa,’ Ifrane, with its Alps-like ambiance. Explore the Cedar Forest, home to endangered Barbary macaques.

Descend through the Middle Atlas, arriving at the Ziz Valley, where lush palm groves contrast with arid stony landscapes. Journey through Erfoud, renowned for dinosaur fossils, before reaching Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara. Swap wheels for dromedaries, venturing into the mesmerizing dunes of Erg Chebbi. Conclude the day at a desert camp, savoring Berber tea, dinner, and a night under the awe-inspiring, cloudless, starlit desert sky.

Day 5: Sunrise at Erg Chebbi and Road to Ouarzazate

Witness the mesmerizing sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, bathing the landscape in magical light. After breakfast, ride camels back to Merzouga, with time for a refreshing shower in the tents or a Merzouga hotel, depending on your package.

Embark on a scenic road trip, beginning with the historic town of Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. Explore its authentic medina and experience scenes like a traditional market and donkey parking. The journey continues through arid hills and palm groves, leading to the Todra Gorges—a rocky canyon perfect for climbers and a fascinating exploration for all.

Travel through the Dades Valley, part of the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs, passing the Valley of the Roses with its economically significant rose cultivation. Conclude the day with dinner and a comfortable night’s sleep in an Ouarzazate hotel.

Day 6: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – High Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast in Ouarzazate, embark on a 25 km journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fortified ksar of Ait Ben Haddou—a prime example of Berber defensive military architecture. Explore this historical gem, known for its appearance in films and series like Game of Thrones.

Resume your journey, climbing into the High Atlas. Visit the Telouet Kasbah, once the residence of the Lord of the Atlas, Thami El Glaoui. Reach the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass at over 2,220 meters, offering panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks and Berber villages.

Descend towards Marrakech, approximately 100 km from the pass. Explore Marrakech’s UNESCO-listed medina in the afternoon, featuring iconic landmarks like the Kutubia Mosque, Jemaa el-Fna square, Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the Bahia Palace. Your riad accommodation in the city center will be conveniently located for your exploration.
