In a humanitarian initiative that reflects the spirit of solidarity and support for mountain communities, Mythic Morocco Tours has built a communal water fountain decorated with traditional Moroccan zellige tiles for nomadic families living in caves near the area of Teltfrawt, about 1 kilometer from Akram Mloulne.
This initiative was led by Abderrahmen Oukassi, originally from Igherm Mloulne in the Dades Valley, Tinghir Province, and working in the tourism sector in the commune of Ait Youl. Through his work organizing tours in the mountains and desert, Abderrahmen often meets nomadic families who live in difficult natural conditions between mountains and caves.
Seeing their daily challenges inspired the idea to build this water fountain, with the goal of providing a nearby and easily accessible water source for these nomadic families who previously had to travel long distances to collect water.
The fountain was built using traditional Moroccan zellige, reflecting the beauty and authenticity of Moroccan craftsmanship while also offering durability and resistance to the harsh climate of the mountainous region.
Abderrahmen Oukassi explains that this initiative comes from a deeply personal feeling. As he says:
“Through my work in tourism, I meet many nomads in the mountains. I like to help them because I feel that I am one of them. I am also a son of the desert and I carry the spirit of the nomads in my heart.”
Although simple in appearance, this initiative carries a powerful human value. It helps improve the daily lives of nomadic families, especially women and children who often carry the responsibility of collecting water.
Such initiatives demonstrate how local people can play an important role in supporting their communities and strengthening the spirit of solidarity in remote regions of Morocco.
